Los Angeles was never place where endless skyscraper canyons block the sun from shining on the streets. From time to time we hear about some shy skyscraper proposal for this city that almost every day feels earthquake vibrations, but almost non of them end up built. But that might change. After 54-story JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotel tower, Los Angeles Downtown will get another high rise project. Two new towers of which one of them might become the tallest tower, not only in Los Angeles, but all the way west of Chicago! Wilshire Grand Project will be mixed-use redevelopment built on the site where famous Wilshire Grand Hotel is being demolished right now, 930 Wilshire Boulevard at the intersection with Figueroa Street, in the Financial District, downtown Los Angeles. Designed by
AC Martin Partners, those two towers will cost $1 billion.
As designed, Wilshire Grand might surpass the U.S. Bank Tower by nearly 250 feet (76 m). The tower is part of a new planned light and sign district that will extend along the Figueroa Corridor down to L.A. Live. The towers will be illuminated by digital art and advertisements on the first 10 floors, while the upper floors will feature solely digital art. The 1,250 feet (380 m) supertall is planned for a 2017 opening and will dramatically alter the Los Angeles skyline. The 70 story tower will have 900 hotel rooms and its main lobby on the top floor, as well as multiple bars and restaurants and an infinity pool overlooking the city.
